Treatment Profitability
See what each treatment actually earns after product cost and commissions, and keep prepaid packages and memberships from inflating your revenue.
What This Is
Most med spas and eye care practices know their total revenue. Fewer know how much a single Botox appointment, filler syringe, laser session, or pair of glasses leaves behind once product cost and provider commissions come out. This service works that out each month, treatment by treatment, using your booking and sales data alongside the books we keep in QuickBooks Online.
It also records prepaid packages and memberships correctly. When a client pays upfront for six laser sessions or a year of monthly facials, that money is for treatments you haven’t delivered yet. We record it as a balance you owe in future services and move it into revenue as each treatment is actually performed.
What Gets Tracked
What Gets Tracked
We track revenue for each treatment or product line and the product cost behind it, such as units of neurotoxin, syringes of filler, or frames and lenses. We also track provider and staff commissions based on the commission terms you already have in place, along with discounts and promotions. The result is a profit figure for each service you offer.
How Packages Are Handled
How Packages Are Handled
Package and membership sales are recorded when the money comes in, but as an obligation rather than income. Each time a client uses a session, that portion moves to revenue. Every month you see how much prepaid treatment is still outstanding and which packages are close to being fully used.
Why This Matters
A treatment can be popular and still lose money. Product prices go up, a promotion runs longer than planned, or a commission rate that made sense at one price point stops making sense at another. Without numbers broken out by treatment, these problems stay buried inside a total that looks fine.
Prepaid packages create a different problem. A strong holiday promotion can make December look like your best month ever. Then clients come in over the next six months to use those sessions, and you’re paying for product and commissions on treatments that bring in no new cash. If the books counted all of it as income in December, you’ve been making decisions on numbers that weren’t real.
The Margin Problem
The Margin Problem
Many med spa owners are nurses, injectors, or entrepreneurs who built a strong clinical business without formal finance training. Eye care practices balance insurance exams with retail eyewear that has its own costs and vision plan allowances. In both cases it’s hard to see which services carry the business and which ones quietly drain it.
The Overstated Revenue Problem
The Overstated Revenue Problem
Booking packages as revenue on receipt makes income look higher than it is. That affects how much you think you can spend, how you set prices, and what a lender or buyer sees if you apply for a loan or decide to sell. It also hides a real obligation, because those clients are still owed the treatments they paid for.
What Changes
Each month you get a clear view of what every treatment earns after product and commissions. You can see which services deserve more attention, which prices need adjusting, and whether a promotion actually helped. Decisions about adding a new device or dropping a service get made with real figures in front of you.
Your revenue reflects work you’ve actually done. Package and membership balances are tracked separately, so you know how much future treatment you still owe clients. Monthly income stops swinging with every promotion and starts showing how the practice is really performing.
Pricing With Real Numbers
Pricing With Real Numbers
When you know what a filler appointment nets after product and commission, you can set prices and discounts with confidence. If supplier costs rise, you see the effect on that treatment’s margin the following month instead of finding out at tax time.
Fewer Surprises Later
Fewer Surprises Later
Knowing your outstanding package balance lets you plan for the product and staff time those future visits will require. A slow month after a big promotion stops being a mystery, and the cash you collected upfront doesn’t get spent as if it were already earned.
