Bookkeeping and Tax for Fort Lauderdale Medical Practices
Bookkeeping, payroll, and tax for med spas, cosmetic surgery practices, and concierge doctors in Fort Lauderdale. Remote service from a family firm founded in 1995.
Bookkeeping for Fort Lauderdale Practices
South Florida is one of the strongest markets in the country for med spas and concierge medicine, and Fort Lauderdale sits right in the middle of it. Aesthetic clinics along Las Olas, cosmetic surgeons near the medical offices around Broward Health and Holy Cross, membership practices in Coral Ridge and Victoria Park. Many of these practices are run by skilled clinicians or sharp entrepreneurs who never planned to spend their evenings matching deposits and fixing payroll.
We’re Baker’s Bookkeeping & Tax Services, a family firm founded in 1995 in Lenexa, Kansas. We don’t have an office on Las Olas and we won’t pretend to. What we do have is a team of credentialed enrolled agents who learn your practice and handle your books, payroll, and taxes remotely. Our Chief Information Officer, Marc Eastin, is a practicing neurosurgeon who also owns a business, so we know what it’s like to be the doctor waiting on answers from an accountant.
Monthly Books, Closed On Time
Monthly Books, Closed On Time
Every month your books are closed and you get a one-page summary you can read in a few minutes. If you’re behind when we start, we bring everything current first. For practices that bill insurance, we check that what your billing system says was collected actually reached the bank.
Packages and Memberships
Packages and Memberships
Fort Lauderdale aesthetic clinics sell a lot of prepaid treatment series and memberships, especially during the winter season. Money collected in February for treatments delivered through the summer isn’t all February income. Our treatment profitability work tracks those packages properly and shows what each treatment earns after product cost and commissions.
Tax Planning Without a State Income Tax
Tax Planning Without a State Income Tax
Florida doesn’t tax your personal income, which puts all the attention on your federal return. We build a yearly plan around your business structure, your owner pay, retirement contributions, and the timing of big purchases like a new laser. Then we revisit it before the year ends, not after.
Payroll and Sales Tax
Payroll and Sales Tax
We run payroll through Gusto for front desk staff, nurses, injectors, and providers, including Florida reemployment tax. Sales tax on retail skincare and supplements is filed with the state on schedule, Broward County surtax included.
Fort Lauderdale Practices We Work With
The medical economy here leans heavily toward cash pay. Patients pay out of pocket for injectables, body contouring, hair restoration, and memberships with a doctor who actually picks up the phone. Some of that demand comes from people who live here year round, and some comes from seasonal residents who arrive in the fall and head north by spring. Revenue follows them, so the same practice can look very different in March than it does in August.
That kind of business doesn’t fit a generic bookkeeping template. Deferred package revenue, more than one entity, retail sales tax, and big seasonal swings in cash all need to be handled correctly. We built our medical practice bookkeeping and tax services around practices like these, so we already know where the problems tend to show up.
Med Spas and Laser Clinics
Med Spas and Laser Clinics
Many med spas here are owned by nurses and entrepreneurs who are great at patient care and newer to the finance side. Our med spa bookkeeping covers product cost on neurotoxins and fillers, provider commissions, retail sales, and books that show which services are actually paying the rent.
Cosmetic Surgery Practices
Cosmetic Surgery Practices
Plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists often collect deposits weeks before a procedure, receive patient financing payments net of fees, and own a surgical suite or building through a separate company. We keep separate books for each entity and make sure deposits are recorded when the work is done.
Concierge and Direct Primary Care
Concierge and Direct Primary Care
A lot of doctors are leaving hospital systems in Broward County to open membership practices, and some are relocating to Florida to do it. We set up the business before you open, track membership revenue month by month, and plan your taxes as your income grows.
Hormone, Weight-Loss, and IV Clinics
Hormone, Weight-Loss, and IV Clinics
Wellness clinics usually combine memberships, one-time visits, and retail products in the same day of sales. We separate those revenue streams so you can see what each one earns, and we keep sales tax on supplements and products filed correctly.
Common Questions About This Area
Do you have an office in Fort Lauderdale?
No. We're a family firm based in Lenexa, Kansas, and our remote division works with practice owners across the country. We work in QuickBooks Online and Gusto, so your books and payroll are available to you at any time. We're on Central time, one hour behind you, and you get the same enrolled agents every month.
Florida has no state income tax. Do I still need tax planning?
Yes. Without a state income tax, your federal return is where nearly all of the savings are. For a high-earning practice owner, choices about business structure, owner salary, retirement contributions, and when to buy equipment can change that bill a lot. If your practice is set up as a C corporation, Florida does tax corporate income, and that is worth reviewing too.
What does it cost?
Monthly bookkeeping runs $500 to $1,500 a month depending on the size of the practice. If your books are behind when we start, catch-up work is billed at 75% of the monthly fee for each month behind. Tax returns for the practice and owner run $2,500 to $6,000 a year. We give you a firm number after we look at your books.
Do you file sales tax on the skincare and supplements we sell?
Yes. We file with the Florida Department of Revenue on time, including the Broward County local surtax. If you also ship products to customers in other states, we file in those states as well.
I'm moving to Florida to open a concierge practice. Can you help before I open?
Yes. Our New Practice Setup service gets your business structure, books, payroll, and software in place before you see your first patient. If you're moving partway through the year, we also handle the part-year return for the state you're leaving, so nothing gets missed in the move.
